This year in the NFL there has been no shortage in top quarterback injuries. It may very well be the worst season in history for inquires at that position, and truly the season of the backup quarterback.
There have been many of the highest paid quarterbacks and just the best quarterbacks in the league to go down to injury all throughout the season so far, and the season is far from over.
The first drive of the season Aaron Rodgers suffered an Achilles tear for his new team, the New York Jets. That started a year of brutal injuries all through out the league with many of the highest paid quarterbacks going down for the year.
NFL Quarterback Kirk Cousins Was The Next To Fall
Kirk Cousins who was playing some of the best football of his career went down shortly after Rodgers for the year. After Kirk, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, Deshaun Watson, and others suffered season ending injuries as well for their respective teams.
Not to mention that Kyler Murray also missed 9 weeks of football to injury to begin the year. The only two quarterbacks of the top 7 highest paid players, Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson are the only two to complete the full year of play.
It is hard to believe that this many quarterbacks could go down to season ending injury throughout the year. The NFL is definitely a super rough sport and there is major contact on every play but this was a bit extreme of a season when it comes to injuries. The interesting thing is, is that all these quarterbacks mostly suffered different injuries throughout the year.
There isn’t anything specific the NFL can really do about this as the injuries are all happening for seemingly different reasons. It is ironic in a terrible way that in a league now where quarterbacks are extremely protected with rules and the way the game is played, that we would see so many injuries to so many of the best players at the position.
This year may just be an anomaly, and we will have to see how all of the se quarterbacks come back from injury, but it sure has made for a very strange year with a lot of mediocre football at times.
