Former NFL Scout Bucky Brooks has a surprise name as a Riser for the 2024 NFL Draft.
Bucky Brooks, a former NFL player and scout, has a quarterback rising on the draft board. Not a name most would expect.
Spencer Rattler is one of the names slowly climbing the 2024 draft projections. Bucky states five different offensive and defensive players should be “re-examined.” Spencer Rattler was the top name on that list.

Spencer Rattler started his pre-draft campaign with an MVP Performance at the senior bowl, then carried on with an impressive throwing performance at the combine.
Bucky Brooks said, “The former five-star recruit is a gunslinger who can vary his velocity and touch based on the defender or pass catcher. Like a Major League Baseball hurler with a vast array of pitches, Rattler’s arm talent should allow him to stick on a roster as a developmental prospect.”
Spencer Rattler to the NFL
Pro Football Focus has Spencer Rattler as a day-two prospect with potential as a starting NFL quarterback. PFF went on to say:
Rattler’s highs have been high, and the lows have been pretty low. He will take some questionable sacks, but since 2019, only 12.3% of his dropbacks have earned a negative grade, the eighth-best mark out of 106 qualifying players.
He’s also a creative playmaker, earning a 91.1 grade outside of the pocket and a 92.8 grade on play action.
Rattler was often on the move last season and threw for 855 yards while under pressure, the third-most in college football.
Depending on the NFL analyst you speak to, Rattler is about fourth through eighth on most lists of quarterbacks in this NFL Draft. He projects to be a second to fifth-round pick. It will be interesting to see where the quarterback lands in a few weeks.
Spencer Rattler in College
Spencer Rattler had a fairly public college journey after being a five-star recruit out of high school. After appearing in the popular Netflix show QB1, Rattler had a reputation early on. Rattler started his career at Oklahoma for Lincoln Riley, but after his career there started to get bumpy, Caleb Williams took over the starting role.
Spencer’s completion percentage was nearly 69% in his last year at South Carolina. He threw for over 3000 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions.
Spencer spoke about finishing his career for the Gamecocks and declaring for the NFL Draft.
“These two years have by far been the best times of my football life,” Rattler shared in a statement. “The relationships made with my teammates, the big wins together, and getting to experience this great city of Columbia and the best fan base in college football each and every weekend. I want to thank Coach Beamer for bringing me here to South Carolina and letting me be a part of this family. His support and vision for this program and its players is something special.”
Spencer Rattler will be categorized as a wild card for the 2024 NFL Draft. The draft position of quarterbacks before him and certain team needs will depend on where he goes in April.
