We are just over halfway through the NFL season and we have seen some drastic changes in the way that teams have performed week to week. The standings tell us a lot about playoff contenders as well as how the future will go for each team, but with what we have seen, these standings do not tell us everything.
Here is a breakdown of all 32 teams’ standings and what to look for moving into playoff season.
Super Bowl Contenders:
Philadelphia Eagles (8-1)
The Philadelphia Eagles are playing some good football this year and are the best ranked team in the NFL. This could all change this weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs and the game will prove to be a test for the future of Philadelphia this season.
Kansas City Chiefs (7-2)
The Kansas City Chiefs are a powerhouse of a team this season, but they have had some pretty significant bumps in the road that may impact their chances of becoming repeat Super Bowl champions. The Chiefs need this win against the Eagles to prove that they are not to be doubted.
Detroit Lions (7-2)
That 7-2 record does not lie and the Detroit Lions are making it known that they are in it to win it this season. Jared Goff and this Lions offense are heating up and I have no doubt that we are going to see some heat for the rest of the season.
Dallas Cowboys (6-3)
Last week’s blowout win against the Giants is just what the Dallas Cowboys needed to boost their confidence going into the second half of the 2023 season. Dak Prescott has what it takes to carry this team to the Super Bowl and he will fight to make it there.
Baltimore Ravens (7-3)
The Baltimore Ravens love stepping on their own toes when the season inches toward the playoffs, and last weeks loss painted that image crystal clear. If the Ravens want to see a Super Bowl, they are going to have to stay consistent and composed.
San Francisco 49ers (6-3)
The San Francisco 49ers are back in this contest, and we are seeing that winning team that we saw at the beginning of the season. It is time for them to push the envelope and show us that they deserve to be in the Super Bowl.
Will put up a Fight but Unlikely to be in the Super Bowl
Seattle Seahawks (6-3)
The Seattle Seahawks have been messy this season, but most of that mess came against two of the best defenses in the NFL. This is promising for this team, as they showed their skills in Sunday’s win against the Commanders, and seem hungry for more victories in the coming weeks.
Cinncinati Bengals (5-4)
This team has just straight up been playing messy football. Tyler Boyd’s dropped touchdown mixed with Joe Burrows two turnovers? Not the Bengals offense we have seen throughout this season and it is definitely not a good time for that.
Cleveland Browns (6-3)
Last week, I would have had the Cleveland Browns trailing the 49ers in rankings, but with the news of DeShaun Watson out for the season, it could get ugly in Cleveland.
Miami Dolphins (6-3)
The Miami Dolphins offense came into this season as loud as they possibly could have. They are leading the AFC East, which is a good sign, but their 0-3 record against winning teams takes them out of Super Bowl reach for me.
Minnesota Vikings (6-4)
Joshua Dobbs is making it happen in Minnesota and this team is really stepping it up without Kirk Cousins behind the ball. I am curious to see where this team goes, and I think they have a good shot at winning throughout the next few weeks.
Houston Texans (5-4)
C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans have proven themselves this season, and their offense looks pretty unstoppable. It is possible that they win the AFC South, but still a longshot.
Jacksonville Jaguars (6-3)
The 49ers humbled the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday to say the least. This team can make a comeback, but it is unlikely based on what we have seen in recent weeks.
Pittsburgh Steelers (5-4)
The Pittsburgh Steelers are playing good football right now and winning games. They do have a top-20 defense and one of the best coaches in the NFL. Let’s see where this takes them throughout the rest of the season.
Denver Broncos (4-5)
This week will tell all for the Broncos and Russell Wilson, as they are taking on the Vikings who have been playing some good football over the past few weeks. The Broncos have made a turn around with a shocking victory against the Chiefs. Let’s see how this plays out.
Unlikely to Make the NFL Playoffs
Buffalo Bills (5-5)
I am not sure what happened to this team to be honest. They were looking great during some games, and it seems to have all gone downhill. It is not looking good for Josh Allen and the Bills for the remainder of this season, but they may turn it around, who knows.
Washington Commanders (4-6)
The Washington Commanders have an easy week coming up, and it will be a good chance to show off their talent moving into the remainder of the season.
Las Vegas Raiders (5-5)
Lucky for the Las Vegas Raiders, they are taking on the fraudulent Dolphins, which could possibly be a huge win for them. They are still one of the worst teams in the NFL, but they have strong players that have the potential to turn things around.
Los Angeles Chargers (4-5)
The Los Angeles Chargers are notoriously inconsistent and this season has been no stranger to that notion. The Chargers did make an impact in Week 10, but it was not enough to give me the confidence to say that this team will make the playoffs.
New Orleans Saints (5-5)
This team is just a mess this season, and each week proves to be the same. There is no predicting what this team will do throughout the rest of this season, but its not looking good for them right now.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-5)
It is going to be hard to watch this game against the 49ers based on how they played against the Giants last week, but Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers got the much needed W last week and they have a chance, even though slim, of making it to the playoffs.
Indianapolis Colts (5-5)
It is likely that this Colts team will break out of their shell next year and make their impact on the 2024 season, but with the inconsistency of this season, it is unlikely that they make the playoffs this year.
Atlanta Falcons (4-6)
There is quite literally no chance that the Atlanta Falcons have any sort of the success throughout the rest of the reason with how they have been playing. There is a chance that they win the division, but only because the NFC South is at the bottom of the rankings again this season.
Chicago Bears (3-7)
The Chicago Bears are looking much better than they did going into the season and hope has proved to be a big thing in the NFL, so maybe they will step it up throughout the rest of the season.
There’s Always Next Season
Tennessee Titans (3-6)
After losing 4 out of 5 of their last five games, the Titans are slowly waving goodbye to the 2023 season.
Green Bay Packers (3-6)
The youthfulness of this Green Bay Team has proven risky this season and we are not likely to see them in the playoffs.
New York Jets (4-5)
This franchise needs some serious decision-making help going into next season and we will just leave it at that.
Los Angeles Rams (3-6)
This team is in dire need of a top pick for next season. Thats all I am going to say.
Arizona Cardinals (2-8)
The Cardinals are the best of the worst this season, putting up more of a fight than any other losing team in the league. That definitely says something about this team and I have no doubt they will get it together before the 2024 season.
New England Patriots (2-8)
Belichick’s Patriots are disappointing to say the least this season and his sideline reactions say it all. There is no telling what will happen in the offseason, but lets hope good news comes out of New England before the 2024 season begins.
New York Giants (2-8)
The Giants are broken, and Tommy DeVitto is not doing them any good. The Cowboys truly exposed the fact that this season is over for this team.
Carolina Panthers (1-8)
The Panthers are the worst team in the NFL. There is something going on in this franchise and lets hope that next season turns out better for this team.
