As the NFL regular season comes to a close with only two games left, the MVP race shouldn’t really be a race at all. Three names have consistently been brought up when discussing who is worthy of the league’s highest individual award. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, and last year’s MVP winner, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Although all three have had superb seasons and are deserving of being considered for individual awards, one of them has clearly separated themself from the pack. Barkley should be the clear winner of the Offensive Player of the Year, leaving the MVP to Allen and Jackson. Much of the mainstream media has been pushing for the Bills QB to be this year’s award winner. While yes, it’s fun to have someone win the MVP that has never done it before, it isn’t much more than a participation trophy if it doesn’t go to the most deserving player regardless of how many times they’ve won it.
Lamar Jackson is The NFL MVP
The Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has won the MVP award twice already in his NFL career. But 2024 has been his most impressive season yet. Jackson has put up video game like numbers both through the air and on the ground with his legs. Baltimore sits in position to win the AFC North, but as Jackson has said throughout the season, their eyes are on a much bigger prize. A lot of media sources are saying how this is such a close race for the MVP award, but if you take a look at the numbers, they will tell a very different story.
Head-To-Head Comparison of Jackson-Allen
Stat Lamar Jackson Josh Allen
Passing Yards: 3,955 3,549
Passing TD: 39 26
Interceptions: 4 6
Comp %: 67.9 63.8
QBR: 121.6 101.2
Rushing Yards: 852 514
Rushing TD: 4 11
Team Record: 11-5 12-3
Head-To-Head: Won Lost (35-10)
Josh Allen has had a spectacular season, there is no denying that. This shows though, he certainly hasn’t had the best season of any player in the league. Most Valuable Player goes to the best player that season without bias of if they have already won the award or not. Lamar Jackson has put together the best season of his career and the best season of any NFL star this season. There is zero doubt that he should not be the 2024 MVP and claim the award for the third time in his young career.
