Recently, Cam Newton, the former NFL MVP and renowned quarterback, came forward with candid advice for his fellow quarterback, Lamar Jackson. NFL has always been the world where social media and 24/7 coverage can amplify every critique, and athletes often find themselves under a microscope.
After cautioning Anthony Richardson not to give critics fodder, Newton is now warning Jackson against succumbing to the media’s allegations. He called out specifically those in the media who have never played that position, nor have they played a down of football.
Cam Newton admits to the media scrutiny that shaped his career. Although it won him accolades, it came along with criticism throughout his journey. They questioned the unconventional style and decisions he made on the field.
He learned fine lessons about how media narratives could make or mar a person athlete who does not quite fit the traditional mold.
But when it comes to Jackson, Newton is adamant that the lens through which the narrative concerning the Baltimore Ravens quarterback and his style of play is viewed needs to shift.
Cam Newton Urges Lamar Jackson to Ignore Media Critics Who Never Played QB

Newton’s message to Jackson is clear: “And my whole thing with Lamar Jackson has been this: he is all time the greatest dual-threat quarterback to play this game, bar none,” said Newton. “You can do things on the football field, Lamar Jackson, that nobody has ever been able to do. That’s your skill; that’s not your deficit.”
“Do not allow other people — and it’s easy for other people to critique a game that they didn’t even play,” Newton added. “Now, I’ll say that again: it’s easy for people to critique a game — and most of the time, they didn’t even play it. It’s for them to say it. ‘You can’t play the game of football like that.’ ‘You can’t play quarterback like that.’ Hey, asshole, you didn’t even play quarterback.
“But just because you got one of these [a microphone]; just because you got a platform; just because you got a Twitter account; just because you got a comment, you think you know about football. So, his mom can agree to this: Lamar, bro, be you, and do you. Because even though you know that you have to get other people involved in the game, bro, you got something that a lot of people wish that they had — the uncanny ability to get the f*ck home at any time.
“You’re the only person, probably, in history that can be successful by just dropping back and being blind. And just saying, ‘You know what, one, two, three, four; OK, boom, let me scramble,’ and probably can be successful at it. That’s a skill. That’s not a deficit.”

For Jackson, who is in the peak of his career, Cam Newton’s advice could serve as a great guide to navigate the pressures of being in the NFL spotlight. If Jackson should focus on his skills and stay true to himself, Jackson will have the opportunity to carve out a legacy that reflects his unique contributions to the game.
