The NFL made it clear with Nick Bosa wearing the MAGA hat in a postgame interview that the league would not tolerate players making any political statements during the game. Now, they are driving that exact point home further by sending a strong warning to all the players around the league after Donald Trump’s election win.
NFL Sends Strong Warning to Players Regarding Political Statements
Per Tzvi Machlin of The Spun:
According to Bloomberg, the NFL has sent a memo to teams reminding them of their policy against personal messages including political statements being displayed during game days. It also reminded them that players are subject to fines in excess of $10,000, such as the one that it handed Bosa for wearing the hat after his win.
“In light of Donald Trump’s return to the White House, the NFL sent a memo to teams reiterating its policy on not allowing personal messages, including political statements, to be displayed during game days, according to a memo reviewed by Bloomberg,” the outlet reported.
There were many supporters of Trump who were on social media furious over Bosa’s punishment, and even going as far as calling the NFL left-wing and being against Trump. While many can accuse the NFL for being those things, it has always been obvious that all the league cares about is their money. It is a business and that is what matters at the end of the day.
The league has rules and reasons behind players not making any type of political statements during the games while making statements on personal social media and the like is totally allowed. Harrison Butker made his famous commencement speech and was not punished by the league as that is allowed under their rules.
Many of the league owners may be in support of Trump, but their rules are there for the fans to enjoy the entertainment and to make money. Some of the league owners have even donated to Trump’s campaign.

The NFL has always been at its worst when it brings divisive energy to the fans. On the flip side, the league and sport are at their best when it brings people together beyond their political, and many other differences.
The league will certainly take action against any other players who try to make political statements during games, and that will amount to hefty fines. We will probably not see as much of that going forward.
