After over two months of NFL action, there have been a number of fines the league handed out to various players. The thing is, Spotrac’s tracker on these fines have shown an exponential increase in their number and the corresponding fees that go along with them this year.
Just recently, the NFL has announced fines for several players following Week 7’s games, with San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams receiving the most notable penalty. Williams has been fined $11,817 for unnecessary roughness after being ejected for punching Kansas City Chiefs safety Bryan Cook during their matchup. This incident occurred after a scuffle on the ground, with Cook reportedly striking Williams first, leading to both players facing fines—Cook was docked $8,442 for his involvement.

In addition to Williams and Cook, other players from their game also received fines. 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir was fined $11,817, while Chiefs wide receiver Skyy Moore faced a penalty of $9,356.83 for unnecessary roughness. The NFL also imposed fines on Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield and linebacker K.J. Britt for penalties during their game against the Ravens.
The highest fine of the week went to Jets linebacker Quincy Williams, who was penalized $45,020 for a helmet-to-helmet hit, emphasizing the league’s ongoing commitment to player safety. Other fines included Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith, who was fined $16,883 for an illegal hip-drop tackle that resulted in a season-ending injury for Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin.
The NFL’s approach to discipline aims to maintain a level of safety and sportsmanship within the game, and these fines serve as reminders for players to adhere to the league’s rules. With Week 8 now on ongoing, teams will need to adjust their strategies based on player availability and potential suspensions from these infractions.
