The New York Jets have been one of the worst teams in the 2024 season. After coming into the year with lofty expectations of a Super Bowl or at the very least making a playoff run, they have underperformed since week one. Future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers hasn’t looked himself at all, resembling nothing of what made him so great in Green Bay.
Since the season began Owner Woody Johnson has fired both Head Coach Robert Saleh and now General Manager Joe Douglas. Despite bolstering one of the NFL’s top rosters, New York just can’t seem to get it together and put all that talent to use.
Will Jets Reload or Rebuild?
Rumors have been circulating through all of sports media about Rodgers being benched or if the star quarterback will even be with the team next year. It’s clear that Rodgers has declined, at his age that’s perfectly normal. Whether or not New York wants to try and add more to this roster and give it one more year under a completely new staff has yet to be seen.
The Jets are 1-5 since firing Robert Saleh and the offense hasn’t looked much better after replacing Nathaniel Hackett. It seems no matter what they do this season, it’s the wrong move. This last Sunday, Rodgers struggled to even eclipse 50 passing yards in the first half against an Indianapolis Colts team that hasn’t been good. The Colts would defeat the Jets 28-27 in New York, a game that they desperately needed to win to keep any shred of hope for the playoffs alive.
Former Coach Could Return for Jets
Yes, Bill Belichick was once the coach of the New York Jets. Belichick served as defensive coordinator under Bill Parcells from 1997-1999. He would then be named the head coach after Parcells resigned; Belichick would be the Jets head coach for a total of one day. He would then write on a napkin “I resign as HC of the NYJ”. Later, New York would make their greatest mistake in franchise history by trading the future Hall of Fame coach to division rival New England Patriots.
It wouldn’t be out of the question for Belichick to return to Gang Green and give it one last shot to win another Super Bowl. With how the former Patriots coach has sounded in the media, it appears his departure from New England may not have been as graceful or voluntary as it was originally portrayed. What better way to exact revenge than going to a divisional rival and taking that team to the playoffs and maybe even the Super Bowl.
