The New York Giants pulled the trigger on what some folks might consider a low-impact trade with the Arizona Cardinals. Well, three-time All-Pro wide receiver Deandre Hopkins does not agree with this notion one bit. In fact, Hopkins, who now plies his trade with the Tennessee Titans, believes that the Giants just pulled off a massive steal in trading for Isaiah Simmons.
Deandre Hopkins Believes Giants Got a ‘Steal’ in Isaiah Simmons Trade

It was revealed on Thursday that New York sent a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Cardinals in exchange for Simmons. Hopkins played three seasons alongside Simmons in Arizona so he knows a thing or two about the 25-year-old linebacker. This is exactly why Hopkins believes the Giants scored a big win in this deal:
“The Giants just got a steal in @isaiahsimmons25, 7th rounder 🤣🤣” Hopkins wrote in his tweet.

For some reason, it appears that Deandre Hopkins has already deleted his tweet. As always, though, the internet was quick to keep their receipts.
Simmons, who the Cardinals selected as their No. 8 overall pick back in the 2020 NFL Draft, is a versatile LB who played multiple positions for Arizona during his time with the team. This included being a linebacker, a safety, and a slot corner. It was his versatility and potential to play multiple positions that likely served as the biggest motivation for the Cardinals to use such a high pick on the former Clemson standout three years ago.
Simmons did show flashes of brilliance in his first three years in the NFL, but clearly, it was not enough to prove to the Cardinals that this young man deserved a long-term contract. Arizona decided to decline his fifth-year option this summer and ultimately decided to send him packing.
As Hopkins implied, his former teammate still has a lot of untapped potential. Hopefully, the change in scenery and the fresh start in New York will allow this young man to live up to the lofty expectations most folks had of him when he first arrived in the NFL.
