The New York Jets were on the receiving end of another tough loss on Sunday, making it two defeats in their first three games of the new season. This time around, it was Mac Jones and the New England Patriots who delivered another blow to New York’s season with a 15-10 win in the MetLife Stadium.
Zach Wilson Has Another Lackluster Performance
Sunday was the second straight game Zach Wilson got the nod to start for New York following Aaron Rodgers’ potentially season-ending injury. Unfortunately, the 24-year-old was unable to redeem himself from his lackluster outing in Week 2. On Sunday against the Pats, Wilson went 18-of-36 with his passes for 157 yards, zero touchdowns, and zero interceptions.
It goes without saying that the young QB was a major reason behind the Jets scoring just 10 points and 12 first downs on another disappointing day on the field.
New York Jets Head Coach Robert Saleh Speaks Out on Zach Wilson’s Performance
Be that as it may, New York head coach Robert Saleh remains steadfast in his trust in Wilson. Speaking to reporters after Sunday’s loss, the Jets shot-caller declared his unwavering confidence in his QB1:
“He’s our unquestioned quarterback,” Saleh said, via Michael David Smith of PFT. “As long as he continues to show the way his preparation, the way he’s been practicing, and even in these games, he’s not the reason why we lost yesterday. It’s always a team effort. As long as he continues to show improvement — and I know it’s not, from a box score standpoint, it’s not showing — he’s going to be our quarterback.”
While more than a few folks out there have been quick in pinning the blame on Wilson, his head coach is not ready to throw him under the bus — at least not yet. After all, the Jets have no other choice given how Aaron Rodgers is looking like he’s done for the year. There has been some hope that the four-time MVP will be able to return in time for the playoffs, but with how they’re playing lately, it doesn’t seem like this team is headed to the postseason this year.
