The New York Jets hope Aaron Rodgers can improve their passing offense, which ranked at the bottom in completions (18th), passing yards (30th), passing touchdowns (32nd), and passing first downs (27th) in 2023. Having Rodgers back should drastically improve their offense.
The Jets have two of their three starting wide receiver spots locked in. Garrett Wilson will start on the outside, while Mike Williams, who hopes to be ready by Week 1, will start opposite Wilson once he returns to the football field. Two players will compete for the WR3 role.

The Jets have two players competing for the WR3/starting slot receiver role.
The first player competing is Xavier Gipson. The former undrafted free agent was their return specialist in his rookie season. He excelled at it, with 22 kick returns for 511 yards and 33 punt returns for 319 yards and one touchdown.
Gipson took over as the starting slot receiver after the Jets benched Randall Cobb in Week 8. He did a decent job in the slot, catching 21 passes for 229 yards. He also rushed for 68 yards on eight carries and one touchdown.
The second player competing is Malachi Corley. The third-round rookie played four seasons of college football for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. He caught 259 passes for 3,035 yards and 29 touchdowns and earned two All-Conference USA First-Team honors.
So far, one player has stood out.

Xavier Gipson has impressed the Jets throughout offseason workouts. He has taken the early lead, receiving first-team reps throughout OTAs and mandatory minicamp. Malachi Corley, on the other hand, received second-team reps.
Don’t rule out their third-round pick just yet

Gipson taking the early mean doesn’t mean he will win the starting job because training camp hasn’t started, and they haven’t put the pads on. We will have a more definitive answer once they put the pads on and get live reps during the preseason.
Don’t rule Corley out just yet. They drafted him in the third round for a reason.
