New York Jets Could Add Another Big Weapon For Aaron Rodgers Before 2024 Season

New York Jets superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers is set to make his comeback to the NFL in Week 1 on Monday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers. After seeing his 2023 season end just four snaps into his first drive due to an Achilles tear, Rodgers is ready to get back on the field. Everyone is excited to see what Rodgers can bring to the field.

There are some major concerns about a 40-year-old quarterback coming back from such a brutal injury. Many are worried that he won’t be able to live up the hype that he is currently receiving.

However, each and every time Rodgers has been doubted throughout his career, he has proved the critics wrong.

With that in mind, Joe Douglas and the Jets have already added two new weapons for Rodgers to work with. Mike Williams was signed in free agency and Malachi Corley was added in the 2024 NFL Draft. There is a chance that the New York Jets aren’t done adding more weapons for Rodgers.

New York Jets Could Add Another Big Weapon For Aaron Rodgers

Dylan Sanders of Jets Country, a Sports Illustrated Fan Nation website, suggested that the New York Jets could look at signing free agent wide receiver Michael Thomas.

“If Thomas is going to be the team’s fourth option, he would be one of the best in the league. At worst, he should still be very useful in red zone situations. His 6-foot-3, 212-pound frame combined with a 79.1% career catch rate makes for an intriguing jump ball option.”

Imagining a healthy version of Thomas playing alongside Rodgers is a dream come true. Rodgers has always utilized short routes throughout his career. With the New York Jets, Thomas would be a perfect fit for that scheme.

He has had trouble staying on the field due to injury issues over the last couple of years. If he can get back to full health and stay that way, Thomas could be the missing piece for the Jets’ offense.

Back in 2019, the last time Thomas played a full season, he racked up 149 receptions for 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns. Clearly, he isn’t likely to get back to that level of play, but there is still some of that skill and ability left in Thomas.

Would he be able to be more than a No. 4 wideout for the New York Jets? That would all depend on if he can stay healthy. If he can, he could easily work his way up to being No. 2 on the depth chart.

If the Jets are serious about contending for a Super Bowl, this is the kind of move they need to make. Thomas won’t break the bank and there is no risk to giving him a one-year deal. Aaron Rodgers would love to play with a healthy Thomas and it’s something that New York should look into.
