The New York Jets and Haason Reddick have been locked in a stalemate since the trade that sent the All-Pro pass rusher to the Big Apple back in March.
Reddick, who is coming off a two-year stretch for the Philadelphia Eagles in which he logged 27 sacks, including playing an instrumental role in Philadelphia’s run to the Super Bowl in 2022, is seeking a new long-term contract.
However, Reddick has not stepped into the Jets’ facility, and recently requested a trade as talks between both sides on a new deal appear to have broken down.
Could the Baltimore Ravens Trade for Haason Reddick?
Last season, the Baltimore Ravens barnstormed to the AFC Championship Game on the backs of an MVP season from quarterback Lamar Jackson and a dominant performance from coordinator Mike MacDonald’s defense.
However, with MacDonald in Seattle as the Seahawks’ new head coach and several marquee defenders landing elsewhere in free agency, although the Ravens are considered among the favorites in the AFC to reach the Super Bowl there is always room to add quality talent at the top of the depth chart.
As Week 1 looms, Bleacher Report NFL analyst Alex Kay listed one trade that each team should make, including the Ravens acquiring Reddick in exchange for a 2026 fourth-round pick.
“While the Jets likely won’t get the conditional third-rounder they coughed up to the Philadelphia Eagles,” Kay writes for B/R. “They could still net an early Day 3 pick from a franchise like the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore lost Jadeveon Clowney in free agency after he ranked second on the team in sacks last year and needs a proven talent on the edge to pair with interior rusher Justin Madubuike.
“With an aging Kyle Van Noy their current best option, a deal for Reddick would make plenty of sense. If the Ravens are willing to pay the 29-year-old—who has racked up 50.5 sacks over the last four seasons—they’ll have a much more potent pass-rushing unit than initially expected for the 2024 campaign.”
There is little question that Reddick would be an immediate upgrade over Van Noy and worthy complement to Madubuike, it’s also difficult to imagine the Jets dealing Reddick within the conference.
Likewise, given how little progress has seemingly been made towards the two sides reaching a pact, even a fourth-round pick seems like it could be out of reach for the Jets since teams could always choose to wait out him potentially being released.
Still, the idea of Reddick off the edge of Baltimore’s defense reinforces the notion that the Ravens could pose a legitimate threat to the Kansas City Chiefs’ bid for a Super Bowl three-peat.
