The New York Jets 4-10 are amid a public search for a general manager and head coach before the end of the season.
Per a report in The Athletic this week, things in the Jets’ front office don’t seem to be going well, and owner Woody Johnson appears to be the blame for most of the team’s problems, at least to those in the building willing to speak anonymously.
Aaron Rodgers’ status with the New York Jets is unclear for 2025
With a new GM set to join. the team in 2025, it’s possible Aaron Rodgers won’t be back, especially after reports surfaced earlier in the season that Johnson was ready to move on from the 41-year-old quarterback. However, New York could be too far back in the draft to take a top 1-2 quarterback early in the first round, and they could use Rodgers to mentor another quarterback if they go that route in the draft.
Rodgers would mentor a younger quarterback
Per video posted by Paul Andrew Edsen Jr., Rodgers said on Wednesday that he’d be willing to “mentor” a young quarterback if the Jets selected a quarterback in the draft.
‘If they ask me back & they drafted a guy, I’d mentor the hell out of him if I was playing & I’d try to play as well as I could to keep him on the bench,’ Rodgers said.
I love how Aaron Rodgers responded to Rich Cimini’s hypothetical about the #Jets drafting a young QB in 2025 & him potentially returning.

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre famously didn’t want to mentor Rodgers when the team selected his replacement in 2005.
Rodgers knows what that felt like, and he doesn’t want to repeat the cycle.
Although the decision for Rodgers’ return in 2025 isn’t fully his to make.
