The New York Giants have been in the mix of teams that could potentially draft a quarterback. This comes after the position had so much uncertainty in the 2023 NFL season. So, who do the Giants plan on meeting with? Read below to find out.
New York Giants Planning to Meet With Jayden Daniels
According to Ron Butler, who is Jayden Daniels’ agent, Daniels plans to meet with the New York Giants on the following Monday. New York holds the sixth overall pick in this upcoming draft. More than likely, this meeting is an insurance policy in case Daniels happens to fall down to the sixth position.
Other Teams to Worry About
Earlier today, it was reported that Daniels would also meet with the Washington Commanders next week. They currently hold the second overall pick in the draft. There has been a lot of speculation that Daniels could end up getting taken by the Commanders after winning the Heisman Trophy last season for LSU.
However, even if the Commanders do not take Daniels, the Giants have other obstacles in their way. One of which is the New England Patriots. Considering Jacoby Brissett is currently their starting quarterback, the Patriots are expected to draft a quarterback themselves.
Then, it is possible the Arizona Cardinals could trade their fourth overall pick. However, the rumored price for that pick appears to be high with three first-round picks.
New York Giants Quarterback Situation
Right now, Daniel Jones is expected to be the starting quarterback in 2024 for the New York Giants. However, Drew Lock has been brought in as insurance. As for Tommy Devito, it is uncertain if he will be on the active roster again next season. Most likely, it will come down to what the Giants will do in the draft.
Another thing to consider with Jones is his contract situation. Infamously, the Giants agreed to pay him about $160 million over four years. Next year will be the second year of that contract. However, the Giants have a buyout clause at the end of the 2024 NFL season that they can use to get out of it.
So, will the Giants draft Daniels as their next franchise quarterback? Considering they have at least three teams in front of them, this meeting will not likely have anything come out of it. However, this should at least tell you what the Giants have in mind. Even if Daniels is not available by the time they draft sixth, New York could end up drafting their next potential franchise quarterback here.
