Tommy DeVito will get his opportunity to be front and center of the New York Giants’ spotlight this Sunday as their starting Quarterback. DeVito is currently number two on the Giant’s depth chart following the recent departure of Daniel Jones after the Giants waived him in late November.
DeVito has seen little playing time this season for the Giants as the team is currently 2-11 and last in the NFC
East (also the worst record in the NFC). DeVito can hardly be to blame for the disastrous season as he’s only made two appearances this season. The most notable was his start against Tampa Bay on November 24 where the Giants lost 30-7. DeVito completed 21 of 31 (68%) passes while throwing 189 yards.
Lock’s Injury Forces The Giants’ Hand

The news follows an injury announcement this week listing Drew Lock as questionable by the Giants due to heel and left elbow injuries. Lock was recently assigned Quarterback one duties following the release of Daniel Jones and DeVito’s forearm injury earlier this season.
Lock has seen limited play time this season but had the opportunity to start against the Saints and Cowboys recently. Lock completed 42 of 81 (52%) passes in both games for 405 yards. While both games resulted in losses for the Giants, Lock was able to at least lead a competitive effort. The Giants lost 14-11 to the Saints and 27-20 to the Cowboys with Lock as starting Quarterback.

In comparison, DeVito’s 2023 stats had him averaging a 64% completion rate while throwing an average of 122.33 years per game over nine games. DeVito also maintained a QBR of 24.3 in 2023. Should DeVito come back as much of the same Quarterback he was in 2023 this week against the 8-5 Ravens, he will certainly have his work cut out for him to deliver a win for the Giants.
The Ravens are currently in “The Hunt” for a playoff spot and a loss would likely be catastrophic for them this week as several teams in the AFC have yet to be eliminated from playoff contention.
From Undrafted To Giants Starter
The DeVito story in New York has certainly come with notable moments. After being signed in 2023, after he was not selected in the draft, DeVito was cut from the Giants on Aug. 29, 2023. DeVito then made his way to the practice squad but later got his chance to debut in the NFL after Tyrod Taylor was hurt vs. the Jets.
DeVito only threw for a negative one-yard the rest of the game but earned himself an active roster spot soon a couple of days later. This would lead to a stretch of starts for Devito that included three consecutive wins for the Giants. However, that short stretch of success was never quite achieved again as DeVito would later lose his starting position to Tyrod Taylor later in the season.
Amid DeVito’s stretch of starts last season for the Giants came some interest in certain “off the field” aspects of DeVito. For instance, his agent Sean Stellato garnered media attention after the two were photographed together before a Monday night football game during pregame warmups. Stellato’s simple task of taking a phone call was enough to pique people’s interest. Stellato’s attire seemed to catch people off guard and the whole seemingly minuscule event was reported by major publications.
