Daniel Jones’ horrible Week 1 performance has led to fans and critics alike to sour on him. For Victor Cruz, one of the franchise’s greats, the New York Giants may find a long-term solution by drafting a quarterback next year.

In their Week 2 matchup against the Washington Commanders, the New York Giants showed signs of offensive improvement despite suffering a narrow 21-18 defeat. Quarterback Daniel Jones demonstrated better decision-making and execution, completing 16 of 28 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns, a notable step forward after a rocky start to the season.

The Giants’ offense also featured promising contributions from rookie receiver Malik Nabers, who has quickly become a key target in the passing game. His ability to stretch the field and create opportunities has added a new dynamic to the offense, which has struggled in recent seasons. Jones’s connection with Nabers could be pivotal as the team seeks to establish a more explosive attack.

Additionally, kicker Graham Gano’s performance remained a highlight, providing consistency in the kicking game. His ability to convert field goals has been crucial for the Giants, especially in tightly contested games. However, the team’s struggles to finish drives and capitalize on scoring opportunities ultimately contributed to their loss against the Commanders.

Even as early as now, the Giants may look into the 2025 Draft to find an able replacement for Jones. This was suggested by Cruz, in an article written by DJ Siddiqi for Responsible Gambler.

Cruz goes so far as to say that he believes the Giants could look for a quarterback high in the draft in the first or second round for Jones’ potential future replacement. Potential first-round picks at quarterback in next year’s draft is Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Miami’s Cam Ward, USC’s Miller Moss and Georgia’s Carson Beck.

“I think they’re going to want to get a quarterback that can be the guy in the future for them, be the guy that they can depend on moving forward,” says Cruz. “Obviously, those quarterbacks are typically in the first or second round.”

As the 2025 Draft approaches, early predictions highlight standout prospects. The Giants are projected to select Cam Ward, a dynamic quarterback from Miami, reflecting a shift from Jones. Other notable picks include Carson Beck for the Panthers and Kelvin Banks Jr. for the Patriots, showcasing a focus on strengthening key positions across various teams.

With the season still young, the Giants will focus on building momentum, leveraging their emerging playmakers, and enhancing their offensive performance in upcoming games. The progress made in Week 2 offers hope for a more successful campaign.
