The New York Giants decided to roll with Daniel Jones for the 2024 season instead of selecting another QB with the 6th overall pick of the NFL Draft, despite multiple talent evaluators stating publicly this year could be one of the best classes of signal callers in more than a decade.
Instead, the Giants opted to select LSU star WR Malik Nabers — and the rookie WR has all the tools and a rare skillset — but as of now, he doesn’t have a capable QB of getting him the ball.
In Sunday’s home opener against the Minnesota Vikings, Jones finished 22-of-42 for 186 yards, two interceptions and no touchdowns. The New York Giants failed to reach the end zone once in their 2024 debut, falling to the Vikings 28-6 in front of a home crowd that became angrier as the game went on.
Last March, the Giants locked down Jones as their franchise QB for the foreseeable future, giving him a four-year, $160 million contract after the former Duke signal caller put together his best NFL season, which included 3,205 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and 5 interceptions while running for 708 yards and seven touchdowns.
While 2022 was his fourth NFL season and he posted decent stats in comparison to his first three seasons, Jones’ numbers don’t compare to QBs who have gotten recent contract extensions. Lions’ QB Jared Goff is coming off a year where he threw for 4, 575 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while leading Detroit to the NFC Championship game.
Goff was rewarded this offseason with an extension much richer than Jones’, but he QB market in the NFL has skyrocketed since the New York Giants paid their starting QB in 2022.
A better comparison would be Trevor Lawrence, who was given a 5-year, $275 million extension this offseason with an average annual salary of $55 million. Lawrence threw for 4,016 yards, 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions and didn’t even help Jacksonville secure a playoff spot last season, but his stat sheet looks much better than Jones’ 2022 performance.
If the Giants could get Jones to just play like a mid-level NFL starter, they would be getting an incredible bargain, but Jones continues to repeat the same mistakes that have plagued him his entire career.
New York Giants Fans Wait For Daniel Jones To Harass Him After Loss To Vikings
The Giants have an impatient fan base and sports figures in New York have always faced extra scrutiny.
But it can’t be easy for Jones — who is widely hated by his own fan base on social media — and in person, too, based on a new video that hit social media following Sunday’s loss to the Vikings.
Giants fans harassed Daniel Jones as he left MetLife stadium after the loss. Booing him and calling him "Danny Pennies" 😳

After an earlier video surfaced of New York Giants fans burning a Daniel Jones jersey following Sunday’s blowout loss to Minnesota, another one hit the internet that showed a significant number — more than a hundred at least — G-men die-hards yelling at Jones as he exited Met Life Stadium.
It’s hard to hear all of the audio from the video, but phrases like “Danny Pennies” and “give me a million” were heard on the video.
This is really going the extra mile and a perfect depiction of how frustrated New York Giants fans are with Jones. NFL players have media obligations, shower and often spend time with their families before exiting the stadium after a game, which usually isn’t until around two hours after the final whistle.
Clearly this group of Giants’ fans wanted to wait to tell Jones to his face exactly how they feel.
It’s hard not to feel bad for the New York QB, who is attempting to bounce back from a torn ACL he suffered in Week 9 last season against the Las Vegas Raiders.
