The New York Giants are getting prepared for their 100th NFL season. There is a lot of rich history in this NFL franchise. New York has won four Super Bowl titles in franchise history and the last one came in 2011 against the New England Patriots.
In the past, the New York Giants have had some iconic players like Eli Manning. Phil Simms, Michael Strahan, Justin Tuck, Lawerence Taylor, and many more. It will be interesting to see what the Giants do during the 2024 season after finishing 6-11 a season ago.
Malik Nabers To Wear #1 For the New York Giants
Many Giants fans were wondering what number Malik Nabers was going to wear entering the 2024 season. A lot of them thought he was going to wear #88 or #9. Instead, he decided to wear #1.
With permission from the family of Giants legend Ray Flaherty, Malik Nabers will wear No. 1.

It is a big deal that the Giants unretired a number for this rookie. It came as a major surprise to a lot of people. The New York Giants organization will be expecting big things from Malik Nabers moving forward. Nabers will need to live up to expectations.
Fans React
There were a lot of interesting reactions from the New York Giants fanbase on Twitter on Wednesday night when this news was announced. This is what some of them had to say about it:
I see some people believe that it’s disrespectful that Malik Nabers is using a number that was previously retired.
He requested permission to use the number and the family allowed it.
Don’t see an issue.

Not a fan of this even if the family gave permission

It will be interesting to see moving forward if other NFL teams will unretire numbers for players currently in the league. The New York Giants may have just opened a can of worms for others. There were some debates about whether or not jersey numbers should be unretired.
There are a few numbers that players on the Giants should never wear again: 10, 11, 56, and 92. In all honesty, numbers should be kept retired but good for Malik Nabers to ask permission for the number #1. As long as he lives up to expectations for the New York Giants, it will not matter what anyone thinks.
