For his first two NFL seasons, he had Wink Martindale as his defensive coordinator. For this season, the Giants will have Shane Bowen as the defensive coordinator. New York plays a 3-4 defensive scheme and it will be interesting to see how much better it will be this season.

One of the records that has not yet been broken in the NFL is Michael Strahan’s sack record. He recorded 22.5 sacks in 2002. Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt tied the record of 22.5 sacks in the 2022 season and won Defensive Player of the Year that season.
New York Giants outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux spoke to the media about trying to break Michael Strahan’s record of 22.5 sacks. Thibodeaux said:
“In case y’all wondering, I’m going for the record, so don’t ask.”
The fact that he is trying to strive for his goal is a good thing for this defense. It means that he is hungry to get better every single day. The New York Giants could have one of the better defenses in the NFL this season. In his second NFL season a season ago, Thibodeaux recorded 50 tackles, 11.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and four pass deflections.
His 11.5 sacks last year come after only having four total sacks during his rookie season in the NFL. Thibodeaux recorded double-digit sacks a season ago and it has not happened often as of late for this franchise. He hopes he can do it for a second consecutive season.
Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Dexter Lawrence are the core of this defense. Thibodeaux hopes to be on the Mount Rushmore of elite defensive players for this franchise with Michael Strahan and Lawrence Taylor. No one could ever be compared to Lawrence Taylor, however, let’s make that very clear.

Strahan would probably be very happy if Thibodeaux broke his sack record in the future. If he has another big season for the Giants, general manager Joe Schoen is going to have to get a new contract and that would be another story for after the 2024 season.
