The New York Giants hold the No. 3 overall pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft, but despite not having a long-term solution at quarterback might not be intent on taking one of the top prospects at the most important position in all of sports.
After signing Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, as stopgap measures and potentially competent veteran options for 2025, Giants general manager Joe Schoen opened up about the possibility of adding a rookie quarterback and if there’s any pressure to do so later this month.
“With the signing of those two players,” Schoen told reporters Wednesday. “I think we put ourselves in a position where I don’t think it’s mandatory or something with our feet to the fire, that we have to do.
I think the two guys we signed have played a lot of ball. They’ve got a lot of skins on the wall. I do think we’ve upgraded that room compared to where it was a year ago. I like the two guys that we have, and Tommy’s (DeVito) still in there, and he’s won games for us, too, and he’s still developing. We’re happy with the makeup of the room right now.”

In terms of what the Giants’ roster will look like three years down the road, taking a quarterback such as Colorado’s Schedeur Sanders, or Miami’s Cam Ward (if he’s available at No. 3 overall) is probably the most prudent decision Schoen and New York could make.
However, signing Wilson and Winston allows the Giants to try to piece together a team capable of winning some games and maybe even enough to preserve Schoen’s job and allow an opportunity to add a long-term solution in 2026.
