The New York Giants still have a problem on finding a long-term QB who can take over Eli Manning’s place as the team’s franchise QB. While Daniel Jones has shown flashes of brilliance throughout the season, he hasn’t done enough to warrant a long and successful career with the team.
With the quarterback situation seemingly not solved yet, the team is looking for options they can use to finally secure the right QB to help them win more games. If the Giants want to make it out of the NFC East, they need to find the field general that can change the team’s fortunes.
There’s one name that recently made rounds that will take over for the Giants, and it may be a surprising one for some fans.
Analysts believe JJ McCarthy is the QB1 the New York Giants need
According to Big Blue View’s Ed Valentine, former Michigan QB JJ McCarthy is becoming the most popular choice among mock drafters for the sixth overall pick of the 2024 Draft.
He quoted some of the leading mock drafters to explain why the Wolverine is the best choice to become a Giant, with Ian Valentino’s take providing plenty of context to the pick:
Regardless of the money owed to Daniel Jones in 2024, the New York Giants won’t tie their future to the mediocre veteran longer than they have to. Between injuries and uneven play, coach Brian Daboll has to use this opportunity to find a replacement for Jones. If he doesn’t, he risks being on the hot seat soon.
Plugging J.J. McCarthy into an offense that is used to not asking much of its quarterback makes a lot of sense. McCarthy has notable concerns after Michigan won a national title without needing him to carry the offense. However, scouts and coaches love to develop players with great tools, and McCarthy is an above-average athlete with a strong arm.
It’s true that McCarthy’s 2991 passing yards and 21 touchdowns aren’t the most outstanding set of passing stats in college football last season. However, it’s undeniable that the Giants need someone with experience playing in high-pressure situations who can bring the team to where they need to be.
Unless the New York Giants decide to trade up and get another QB, they can end up with JJ McCarthy as their tentative QB1 at the end of the first round.
