The New York Giants signed Jalen Mills to a 1-year, $1,377,500 contract in March. Mills spent the first five years with the Philadephia Eagles (winning a Super Bowl in 2017-2018) and the last three with the New England Patriots. He is a versatile defensive back who has played safety and cornerback in the NFL.

The Giants signed Mills because of his ability to play multiple positions and to provide depth to the secondary after losing Adoree’ Jackson and Xavier McKinney. Unfortunately, he hasn’t solidified a role on defense thus far due to an injury.

Mills has been dealing with a calf strain for quite some time. The Giants placed him on the active/non-football-injury list. As a result, he has missed their first four weeks of practice, including their first preseason game.

His time in New York has come to an abrupt end.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Giants released Mills. They released him because his calf injury caused him to fall out of the rotation and couldn’t solidify a role in the secondary. However, he is healthy and expected to draw interest from multiple teams.
