Wide receiver Malik Nabers wasn’t happy with the New York Giants‘ performance on Sunday. The Giants fell to 2-9 in a 30-7 blowout loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Following the game, Nabers made strong comments, calling the Giants “soft.” The rookie told reporters they needed to talk to head coach Brian Daboll about getting him the ball earlier in games.
“Go out there first, second quarter, don’t get the ball, start getting targets at the end,” Nabers said. “I mean, I can’t do nothing. Start getting the ball when it’s 30-0. What you want me to do? I don’t know. Talk to (Brian Daboll) about that. Talk to Dabs.”
Nabers caught six passes on nine targets for 64 yards on Sunday. All of his receptions came in the second half when the result was no longer in doubt. The Buccaneers led 23-0 at halftime.
Brian Daboll responds to Malik Nabers
On Monday, reporters talked to Daboll in a video press conference. Daboll answered a question about Nabers’ harsh criticisms. Daboll disagreed with Nabers’ assessment and thought the team played hard despite losing by 23 points.
The guys played hard, they played with effort,” Daboll said, per video from SNY Giants. “Just didn’t do enough,”

The New York Giants want to feature Nabers more
Daboll spoke with Nabers after the game. While the third-year head coach would appreciate players’ concerns being dealt with in-house, Daboll agreed Nabers needs to get the ball earlier in games.
“[Nabers is] a very competitive individual,” Daboll said. “You want to get the ball in his hands and I’ve got to do a better job of getting the ball in his hands early. He’s a smart young guy who’s very competitive.”
The Giants have a short time to turn things around this week. They play the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving. Maybe they’ll feed Nabers early on Turkey Day.
