Who will be the New Orleans Saints‘ Week 1 quarterback in the 2025 NFL season? That’s become a big question for the team following the health issue of veteran signal-caller Derek Carr, who could potentially sit out the entire 2025 campaign amid a shoulder injury that had apparently just been discovered recently.
With Carr’s uncertain status at the moment, Katherine Terrell named a few available quarterbacks in the free agent market, including Aaron Rodgers, but another name she mentioned was that of five-time FCS champion Carson Wentz.
Wentz, 32, spent the past season with the Kansas City Chiefs as a backup and hasn’t been a primary starter since his 2021 season with the Indianapolis Colts. Wentz’s best season was in 2017, when he went 11-2 as a starter with the Philadelphia Eagles and threw 33 touchdowns before tearing his ACL, opening the door for backup Nick Foles to win a Super Bowl that season.
Carson Wentz to the New Orleans Saints?

Wentz, who turned 32 years old last December, most recently suited up for the Kansas City Chiefs.
He only appeared in three games, including a start, for the Chiefs in the 2024 NFL season, passing for only 118 yards with zero touchdowns and no interceptions on 12-for-19 pass completions.
It is also worth mentioning that the Saints own the No. 9 overall pick in the first round of the upcoming 2025 NFL draft, and as noted by Terrell, still have $27 million in available cap space.
