The 2-3 New Orleans Saints host the 3-2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Caesars Superdome for their sixth regular season game of the 2024 season. The Saints are coming off a disappointing 13-26 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night. The offense struggled throughout the game, with 14 first downs, 220 total yards, 174 passing and 46 rushing yards, and one turnover.
On top of that, their Pro Bowler exited the second half with an injury.
The New Orleans Saints quarterback exited the fourth quarter with an injury
Derek Carr suffered an oblique injury after a failed fourth down conversion pass attempt to Mason Tipton in their second-to-last drive of the game. Carr completed 18 out of 28 pass attempts for 165 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Jake Haener filled in for him in their last drive, completing two out of seven pass attempts for 17 yards.
He told reporters after the game he was “not good” when asked how he was feeling.
He could miss some time
According to Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Derek Carr will likely miss the next couple of weeks with an oblique injury. As Garafolo points out, the New Orleans Saints have two games in nine days, and the team doesn’t expect him to play in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Week 7 against the Denver Broncos on Thursday night.
Sources to me and @RapSheet: #Saints QB Derek Carr is expected to miss multiple games with an oblique injury he suffered against the #Chiefs.
New Orleans has two games in the next nine days, and the likelihood is Carr misses Sun vs. the #Buccaneers and Thurs vs. the #Broncos. pic.twitter.com/njLCXJuSA6

Who replaces him at QB?
According to Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport, although it’s early in the week, Spencer Rattler is a possible candidate to replace Derek Carr as the starting quarterback for the next few weeks. Rattler, their 5th-round rookie, has been inactive for their first five games as the emergency third quarterback. Either way, if he doesn’t end up starting and the Saints roll with Jake Haener, he will serve as the backup.
More on the #Saints’ QB situation: Rookie fifth-rounder Spencer Rattler is a strong candidate to get the start in Derek Carr’s absence, sources tell me and @RapSheet.
With Drake Maye getting the ball for the #Patriots, that would make five rookie QBs to get a start this year. pic.twitter.com/QCk6CvxS8x
