Ultimately, the doctors chose the latter.

Bub Means suffered an ankle injury in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Tests determined that Means sustained a high ankle sprain. As a result, the Saints placed their rookie on injured reserve ahead of Week 9. He will miss at least three more games, and cannot return until Week 14 since BYE’s don’t count as a game.
Finally, their star receiver will miss an extended period.

Chris Olave suffered his second concussion of 2024 in last week’s game against the Carolina Panthers because Derek Carr foolishly threw a hospital ball to him in the middle of the field, and a defender hit him high and knocked him out. The medical staff carted Olave off the field and went directly to the Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center. He was released from the hospital on the same day and traveled back with the team.
He will miss at least four games or the rest of the season
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the New Orleans Saints have officially placed Chris Olave on injured reserve. Olave will miss at least the next four games or possibly the rest of the season. Finally, he will meet with an independent concussion specialist to discuss his history of concussions and what he should do moving forward.

Olave is a talented wide receiver. It’s a shame that a veteran quarterback still throws hospital balls. Hopefully, he will make a speedy recovery.
