Imagining the New England Patriots without Bill Belichick would be difficult to imagine for some NFL fans. After all, there have been some fans in the league who grew up with Belichick as the only head coach who’s lorded over the Pats.
However, his final year with the Patriots proved that it was high time for the organization to move on from Belichick and find a new face of Patriots football that everyone would like.
With the change, it is natural to feel excited about any of the upcoming changes the regime change will bring. While there are voices who expressed love for Bill, one NE wideout who’s entering free agency also took the opportunity to take a quick shot at Belichick.
Kendrick Bourne claims the New England Patriots are in for a huge change under Jerod Mayo
Kendrick Bourne is entering free agency after not being offered a new contract by the Patriots, but he told NFL Network’s Patrick Claybon that he still hopes to be in the team’s plans for the coming season.
He also expressed what New England players and fans can expect once Mayo fully takes over at the start of the 2024 NFL season, as reported by Overtime Heroics’ Petros Augousti:
“I think they can expect a newfound energy,” Bourne said. “A younger kind of vibe. No knock to Bill, but just something different, something new. It”s just kinda how the league is going with coaches now, they”re younger coaches, being more relatable.”
While he clarified that his statement was in no way a dig towards his former coach, his statement implies that it was about time for a change in the way the organization is being run.
However, he didn’t forget to thank Belichick as he expressed his desire to play for the New England Patriots in 2024:
“[Bill] Belichick, obviously you bring him up, he’s somebody that helped me, obviously you know it’s a new coach and new situation, but the building itself, the organization itself, what they stand for has helped me grow. So, it’s some place that they hold a special place in my heart, so I would love to go back.”
Kendrick Bourne spent three years with the Patriots, all of them under Bill Belichick. In the 33 games he played, he caught 90 passes for 1234 yards and six touchdowns.
