New England Patriots Could Make This Intriguing Quarterback Trade

With training camp right around the corner, the New England Patriots have an interesting situation brewing. At the quarterback position, there will be a competition between a veteran and a rookie.

Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye are set to square off with the starting job on the line. Fans and analysts alike are split down the middle about who will end up winning the competition.

It’s very possible that the Patriots will let Brissett start the season while Maye learns from the sidelines. However, it seems very likely that Maye will end the 2024 season as the starting quarterback for New England.

Should Maye end up winning the job before or during the season, the New England Patriots might consider making an interesting move.

New England Patriots Could Trade Jacoby Brissett

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox believes that Brissett could be a potential trade candidate this season. He thinks the New England Patriots will at the very least get some calls about the veteran signal caller.

“The Patriots would love to have Brissett around for all of the 2024 campaign to help Maye learn about how to approach the quarterback position in the NFL. But there is usually a quarterback need across the NFL and that could lead to interest on the trade market. The Patriots do not have to trade Brissett, but he will at least be mentioned in trade conversations when Maye takes over the starting job.”

Honestly, if Maye takes over as the starter, trading Brissett could make a ton of sense for the Patriots.

If he is no longer a part of the future, New England could gain some assets from trading him. Should the Patriots keep Bailey Zappe on the roster, they would still have a solid backup behind Maye.

Brissett last played a key role for a team back in 2022 with the Cleveland Browns. In that season, he completed 64 percent of his pass attempts for 2,608 yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He’s a more than capable backup quarterback who can play good football when needed.

There are quite a few teams around the NFL that need more stability at the quarterback position. Ahead of the trade deadline in-season, it’s likely that some injuries will have occurred that make a quarterback trade possible.

All of that being said, Brissett will be a name to keep a close eye on. The New England Patriots may not end up moving him, but it could be a legitimate option.
