Despite the New England Patriots’ struggles with consistently rushing the passer and stopping the run, their pass defense stood out as a bright spot last season. New England gave up the ninth-fewest completions and the tenth-fewest passing yards but also tied for the tenth-most passing touchdowns in 2024. The Patriots have a bright future with Christian Gonzalez as their CB1, who broke out in Year 2, earning him Second-Team All-Pro honors. However, their other two starting spots are uncertain at this point.
The New England Patriots veteran cornerback will hit free agency

Jonathan Jones finished the final year of his 2-year, $19 million contract, which he signed during the 2023 offseason, and is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Jones took a slight step in production in his ninth season but is still a serviceable starter, recording 58 tackles, six pass deflections, and two forced fumbles, allowing 43 receptions on 60 targets for 538 yards, seven touchdowns, and a 138.1 passer rating. He turns 32 in September and still has a few good years remaining.
Patriots veteran defender is interested in returning for 10th season

During an appearance on NBC Sports Boston’s Next Pats Podcast, Jonathan Jones said he wants to finish his career with New England. Jones also said he wants to get back to winning football games, and he believes incoming head coach Mike Vrabel can bring their culture back. Here’s what the veteran cornerback had to say about the subject matter:
“I’m just taking it one day at a time, but at the same time, I always say one goal of mine is just to be in one place for my entire career,” Jones said. “But more importantly, just get back to winning football. I think Vrabes can bring that culture back to New England and we can get back to winning football games.”
