The new-look Minnesota Vikings are going to be a very interesting team to watch during the early stages of the 2024 NFL season. After losing Kirk Cousins in free agency, the Vikings will start either Sam Darnold or J.J. McCarthy at quarterback. They also added former Green Bay Packers star running back Aaron Jones in free agency.

While there are a lot of reasons to be excited about the future for the Vikings, there are also a lot of concerns. One of the biggest concerns has to do with the future of superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

Another major concern is the healthy of key offensive weapon T.J. Hockenson. The tight end is coming off of a brutal knee injury and isn’t trending towards being available for the start of the season.

Recently, the Minnesota Vikings received another tough injury update on their starting tight end.

Minnesota Vikings Receive Another Brutal Injury Update On T.J. Hockenson

Will Ragatz of Inside the Vikings has reported that Hockenson is trending towards missing the first month of the 2024 season. That is a gut punch for the new-look offense.

Here is what he had to say about the injury update on Hockenson:

“Looking for additional tight end depth to help them survive what’s expected to be at least a 4-6 week absence for T.J. Hockenson, the Vikings brought in veteran Robert Tonyan.”

Being able to turn to Tonyan was a nice move for the Vikings. Tonyan had a rough 2023 season with the Chicago Bears, but he had a very successful tenure with the Green Bay Packers a few years back. He’s capable of handling the tight end duties until Hockenson comes back.

That being said, the Minnesota Vikings relied heavily on Hockenson during the 2023 campaign. In the 15 games he played, Hockenson racked up 95 receptions for 960 yards and five touchdowns. Those numbers show just how important he is for the offense.

Hopefully, the currently timeline doesn’t end up getting stretched out even further. A lot of times with these kinds of injuries, setbacks happen. Minnesota can’t afford for him to miss a large chunk of the season.

Expect to hear more updates about T.J. Hockenson as we get closer to the season. The Minnesota Vikings are hoping to get good news in the coming weeks, but we’ll just have to wait and see. We’ll have all the latest updates for you as they become available.
