After the big win against Michigan State, the Michigan Wolverines stunned the 2025 recruiting race by securing the ninth (Position) nationally-ranked cornerback 6’2″ 180lb Shamari Earls from Thomas Dale Highschool in Chester, Virginia. The cornerback previously committed to the Georgia Bulldogs on July 7th, 2024.
Wolverines’ Commit Shamari Earls Impresses Scouts
Andrew Ivins (Director of Scouting) for 247sports.com, gives us some insight into what we can expect from the new cornerback. On April 20, 2024, Andrew gave his evaluation.
Imposing perimeter corner with the ideal blend of size and speed. Has made an impact in all three phases of the game since he was a sophomore in Virginia’s highest classification and has experience working in a variety of different coverages. Creates release disruption from press and does his best to mirror opponents as their routes progress. Alert when forward-facing, and will play through hands to break up passes, but needs to improve overall awareness when his back is turned to the football.
Can get across the field with his top gear and prevent touchdowns while in pursuit. Low-tackling style gets the job done, but will only add more value in run support if he can shed with more authority.
Should be viewed as a potential multi-year starter at the Power Four level with legitimate NFL upside. Frame hasn’t been third-party verified, but appears to be over 6-foot. More notably, owns elite markers in both the 55-meter dash and the long jump. Likely will need a developmental year or two to adjust to the collegiate game and refine technique, but could be well worth the wait.

Shamari looks like he could help improve the recently sluggish-looking 2024 Michigan Wolverines who are without their star corner in the projected lottery pick Will Johnson due to injury. They will have to try and re-up their talent losing around at least 3-5 key players just from the defense alone.
Wolverines Make Use of Their Increased NIL Budget
Shamari Earls is coming to Ann Arbor as Michigan jumps over Notre Dame and Penn State in 247sports rankings. Additionally, the Wolverines look to continue their newfound confidence in high-level recruiting by adding to their already dazzling DB 2025 commitments.
Already having safety commitments like the 2nd (Position) nationally ranked 4-star 6′ 174lb Ivan Taylor and 11th (Position) ranked 4-star 5’10” 185lb Kainoa Winston. As well as the 15th nationally ranked 4-star 6’2″ 172 cornerback Jayden Sanders.
Not only are the Wolverines getting top commits for the defense, but Michigan has recently received a commit from 5-star 11th (All-Positions) nationally ranked offensive tackle 6’6″ 280 Andrew Babalola from Blue Valley Northwest Highschool in Overland Park, Kansas, on October 21st, 2024.
We will just have to wait and see how many more 5 and 4-star talent the Wolverines and Sherrone Moore can pull in. Possibly even sway LSU 5-star 1st (All-Postions) ranked nationally commit 6’3.5″ 205lb Bryce Underwood. Bryce has become Michigan’s top QB target with rumors circulating that the Wolverines have offered the Belleville, MI quarterback 5 million dollars worth in NIL.
