Michael Gallup Headlines Dallas Players on PUP

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup will begin training camp on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list. The team can activate him at any point in the preseason. If Gallup starts the season on the PUP, he would have to remain on the list for at least four weeks.

He joins rookies Quandre Mosely, Dontario Drummond, and Aaron Hansford on the PUP to kick off training camp. Although the injured players are not able to participate in the preseason, for the time being, they are a part of the Cowboys’ 90-man camp roster.

Fifth-round draft choice Damone Clark was placed on the Non-Football Injury list. A spinal fusion surgery sidelines the linebacker for about six months, and Dallas has not ruled out the chances of Clark stepping on the field this year.

Why is Michael Gallup on the PUP?

In Week 17 of the 2021 season, Gallup tore his ACL after catching a touchdown pass against the Arizona Cardinals. He got surgery on his knee in early February after suffering the injury on Jan. 2.

The wide receiver’s rehab has progressed well, and he may return early in the regular season. A Week 1 return is unlikely at the moment.

McCarthy says Michael Gallup "hasn't missed a target yet." Describes him as being in the "4th quarter" of his rehab.

    Looking at Michael Gallup

Dallas selected Michael Gallup in the third round of the 2018 draft. Throughout his career, he developed into Dak Prescott’s favorite deep-ball target. He has spent all four seasons with the Cowboys.

The 6-foot-1 WR began the 2021 campaign straining his calf in Week 1, and hit the injured reserve for two months. The torn ACL shut Gallup down for the remainder of the year. In nine games, he caught 35 passes for 445 yards and two touchdowns.

After hitting the free agent market this offseason, Dallas rewarded Gallup with a five-year, $62.5 million deal. In four years, the WR totals 193 receptions, 2902 yards, and 15 TDs.

When healthy, Gallup is the Cowboys’ No. 2 receiver. With his injury, rookie Jalen Tolbert and free agent signee James Washington will compete to fill Gallup’s spot while he is inactive. CeeDee Lamb enters the year as the squad’s No. 1 WR. If Tolbert and Washington perform well in Gallup’s absence, his return will make Dallas’ offense lethal.
