Dallas Cowboys star pass rusher Micah Parsons is not planning to fall for any of Jerry Jones’ tricks. The Cowboys and Parsons are reportedly working on a contract extension this offseason. Parsons is set to head into free agency in 2026.
Per the Cowboys’ website, Jones said during the annual league meeting that he’s spent time discussing the contract with Parsons.
“I’ve spent five, six hours with him myself,” Jones said. “Had a lot of discussions, most of the issues we’re in agreement on, and I’ve discussed it all. But we obviously don’t have an agreement relative to a new contract, Micah’s under contract, and so we’ll see how that goes. It’s not uncommon for me to visit directly with players, and in this particular case, that’s the way I’m doing it…
“I’m the one who has to sign the check and Micah’s the one that has to agree to it, That’s the straightest way to get there is the one writing the check and the one agreeing to it talking, and that’s the principle that’s involved here.”
Per Clarence Hill of Alldlls.com, Jones offered Parsons a record contract extension without his agent involved. Jones claimed not to know the name of Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta.
Dallas Cowboys: Micah Parsons sends Jones an ultimatum

Parsons responded to a post on X by Hill, arguing that Jones disrespected Mulugheta, one of the more well-known agents in the league. Parsons said he will not agree to any contract without his agent involved.
“Facts!! David is the best and I will not be doing any deal without @DavidMulugheta involved! Like anyone with good sense I hired experts for a reason,” Parsons posted on X. “There is no one I trust more when it comes to negotiating contracts than David! There will be no backdoors in this contract negotiation.”

Jones invited unnecessary drama by disrespecting Parsons’ agent. Jones must have known Parsons would use his megaphone to call him out for the blunder.
Maybe it’s Jones’ way of keeping the Cowboys relevant in the headlines this offseason after they were crossed off the list of competitive teams for 2025 with the hiring of Brian Schottenheimer.
