The Miami Dolphins entered the offseason in a bit of an arms race.

Just within the AFC East, the Dolphins need to overcome the likes of Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers, which makes relentlessly pressuring the quarterback paramount to competing. Then there’s the fact that it was Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs who ended Miami’s run in the AFC Wild Card Round last season.
Enter first-round pick and former Penn State standout Chop Robinson, who has the potential to make an instant impact this season.

As the 2024 season inches closer, Pro Football Focus lists Dolphins first-round pick Chop Robinson as one of the top rookies to watch.
“The injury bug ravaged the Dolphins’ pass-rushers late last season,” Jim Wyman and Cam Wasserman write for PFF. “As both Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips went down to season-ending injuries. Phillips tore his Achilles in Week 12, though he is expected to return at some point during the 2024 season. The same may not be able to be said for Chubb, who tore his ACL in Week 17 and may miss most, if not all, of 2024. On top of that, breakout edge rusher Andrew Van Ginkel left for Minnesota in the offseason, making it easy to see why the Dolphins made Penn State’s Chop Robinson their top draft pick.
“Robinson is a freaky athlete with a lot of production but inconsistent technique. Given the injuries running rampant in his position group, he will have plenty of opportunities to be its top pass-rusher.”
Widely viewed as one of the most athletically gifted and explosive pass-rushers in this year’s draft, Robinson made an outsized impact on the Nittany Lions’ defense last season.
According to PFF, Robinson posted an elite 20.9 pass-rush win-rate, and an elite 92.3 pass-rush grade from PFF before being chosen No. 21 overall by the Dolphins this spring.
If Robinson’s athleticism translates and he can be as disruptive in Miami as he was in Happy Valley, the potential is there for him to be a game-wrecker at the NFL level.
