Actor Matthew McConaughey could not contain his happiness after his favorite NFL team, the Washington Commanders, bagged their first playoff win in almost 20 years, after squashing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night. The hero of the night was clearly quarterback Jayden Daniels, who almost single-handedly won the game for the Commanders.
The Commanders played the Buccaneers in the NFL Wild Card Round and won with a final score of 23-20. QB Jayden Daniels led the team on the scoreboard with 24 pass completions out of 35 attempts for 268 yards, scoring a pair of touchdowns. Daniels also took charge of the team’s rushing with 13 carries for 36 yards, while Dyami Brown defended with five receptions for 89 yards, with a single TD.
“Commanders win!! Congrats to josh harris, adam peters, dan quinn, the players, and all fans. Been one here since ’74. Hail!!!.” Matthew McConaughey tweeted through his X account.

McConaughey has been an ardent fan of the Washington Commanders for almost all his life. His craze for the NFL goes so far that the award-winning actor has collected a jar of dirt from the now-demolished Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium.
Matthew McConaughey’s Favorite Washington Commanders To Take On Lions Next
Meanwhile, Matthew McConaughey’s favorite NFL team, the Washington Commanders, are scheduled to take on the Detroit Lions in the NFL Divisional Round. While the Commanders finished with a 12-5 record in the regular season, securing second place in the NFC East, the Detroit Lions finished 15-2, reigning in the NFC North. While the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was certainly a nail-biting one, playing against the aggressive Lions will not be easy.
The Commanders certainly had an eventful season this time, with major coaching changes made prior to it. Coach Dan Quinn took on the coaching position for the first time with the Commanders, with general manager Adam Peters. Meanwhile, Kliff Kingsbury had his first year as offensive coordinator, while Joe Whitt Jr. worked for Washington as defensive coordinator for the first time.
In the squad itself, Jayden Daniels had his rookie season with the team and clearly made a lasting impression in terms of his numbers. In the regular season, Daniels completed 3568 yards in total, scoring 25 yards, while managing nine interceptions for the team. Before the Commanders in the NFL, Daniels played college football for the LSU Tigers and the Arizona State Sun Devils.
