Matthew Golden, who was selected by the Green Bay Packers with their No. 23 pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft, discussed what he plans to do with his first check in the league. Golden spoke to Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman and mentioned that he would like to buy back his childhood home which the family lost a couple of years back.
Golden split his college football career with the Houston Cougars and the Texas Longhorns as a wide receiver. In his senior year with the team, the wide receiver managed to contribute 58 receptions for 987 yards, scoring nine touchdowns for Texas.
“Definitely give my grandma a house. We lost our property a couple of years ago, that’s somewhere I grew up when I was younger. It’d be a blessing to get that back for my family. That’s where they all grew up, that’s where I grew up. I always told myself I wanted to do that and now I’m in the position to do it, so if it’s bound to happen, I’m gonna make it happen for sure.” Matthew Golden said to Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman when he was asked what he plans to purchase with his first NFL check.

Matthew Golden will be playing for the Green Bay Packers in the 2025 NFL season, who last year finished third in the NFC North table after winning 11 games and losing six. The Packers made it to the Wild Card Round but lost to the Eagles, 22-10. The Philadelphia Eagles went on to win the Super Bowl by defeating the Kansas City Chiefs.

Matthew Golden’s Selection Breaks 23-year long Streak For Green Bay
Matthew Golden seems to have already made history with the Green Bay Packers before playing even a single game for the team. Golden, a wide receiver, was drafted by the Packers with their No. 23 pick in the very first round of the NFL draft. The act broke a 23-year long streak by the Packers of not going with a wide receiver in the first round of the draft.

Packers fans could not be more thrilled with Golden joining their favorite team and took to social media to celebrate the smart selection. Some even went on to admit that bagging a player like Matthew Golden in the very first round means that the Green Bay Packers have actually ‘won the draft’.
