The New York Giants had a 3-14 record this season in the NFL and they have a lot of questions to answer this offseason. Many fans wanted to see Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll fired, but owner John Mara decided to bring them both back for a fourth season.
There are a lot of needs for the New York Giants this offseason. Some of the needs on this roster are quarterback, offensive line, cornerback, and defensive tackle. They need to find a lot more talent somewhere this offseason to be more competitive next year.
Pro Football Focus Lists Biggest Roster Decision For the New York Giants This Offseason
Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus Listed One Major Question for each NFL team this offseason. For the New York Giants, Locker said:
“The prognosis at quarterback
Through 16 weeks of the NFL season, the Giants were in the driver’s seat to pick first overall, mercifully ending their longstanding issues under center. But a wacky Week 17 win over the Colts threw a wrench in those plans, leaving New York with the third overall pick.
As a result, the Giants could easily be shut out from both Ward and Sanders, especially given that the Titans and Browns each need quarterbacks. That could encourage New York to trade back for someone like Kyle McCord or Jaxson Dart, or simply bypass the position in the draft’s early rounds altogether. General manager Joe Schoen must account for that possibility in how he handles this offseason, which could be a quarterback carousel.
Could the Giants pursue a more solid stopgap option like Wilson, Rodgers or Fields instead of drafting one at No. 3? Could vying for Sam Darnold, Derek Carr or even Matthew Stafford be on the table? Schoen has myriad ways to try to fix his quarterback quandary, and even if taking one at No. 3 is the most logical outcome, it’s far from a guarantee.”
There is no doubt that the New York Giants will look to explore all avenues for the quarterback position for the 2025 NFL season. They can’t do any worse than Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito, Daniel Jones, and Tim Boyle from a season ago. Just drafting Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward alone third overall would be an upgrade.
There is also a chance that the New York Giants will look to trade for Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford this offseason or potentially sign Jameis Winston in free agency. The Giants need to get better at that position this offseason.
Stafford Rumors Swirling
Over this week, there are already rumors swirling about the New York Giants trading for Matthew Stafford this offseason. Even though Stafford is 37 years old, he still has some juice left in the tank. He completed 65.8% of his passes for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions this past season with the Los Angeles Rams.
There is a chance that the Giants could choose something else and not trade for the star quarterback. However, what general manager Joe Schoen can’t do this offseason is trade for Matthew Stafford and then give up the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft also.
