College football starts in about four months, and it’s never too early to start discussing who should be ranked first in the first college football AP Poll, which comes out a few weeks before the season.

The AP Poll Means Nothing At The Start Of College Football

The AP Top 25 means pretty much nothing, and when the preseason poll comes out in the middle of August, people lose their minds because their favorite team isn’t ranked high enough. But the poll is just a bunch of writers who vote on teams they think will be good without any teams playing a game.

The only poll that matters in college football is the College Football Playoff rankings, which determine who will be in the playoff. The rankings don’t come out until November every season, and then the AP Poll becomes irrelevant.

One college football analyst thinks Ohio State should be the number-one team in the country when the preseason poll comes out, but a glaring roster hole will keep them from that spot.

Joel Klatt Thinks Ohio State Quarterback Position Will Keep Them From Being The Number One Team In College Football

Fox college football analyst Joel Klatt got a good look at the Buckeyes two weeks ago when he did their spring game on Fox and thinks this team has what it takes to be the number one team in the country but from an article from the elevenwarriors.com Klatt state’s ” I think they probably should be the number one team in the country to start the season. The fact that they have questions at the quarterback position will prevent them from probably being the number-one team in the country to start the season. And they”‘ll start number two with legitimate national title hopes for sure.”

Joel Klatt says Ohio State “probably should be the No. 1 team in the country to start the season” but thinks the Buckeyes will begin the year at No. 2 due to quarterback questions. https://t.co/ksZ060RUHm

The Buckeyes Do Have A Quarterback Issue On Their Hands

Ohio State quarterbacks Devin Brown Julian Sayin
Mar 7, 2024; Columbus, OH, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes quarterbacks Devin Brown (33) and Julian Sayin (10) work out during spring football practice at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

Ohio State saw their starting quarterback, Kyle McCord, transfer to Syracuse this offseason. But Kansas State’s Will Howard came in to be the starting quarterback and compete with backup Devin Brown. Howard is a solid quarterback, but he’s not as unique as Carson Beck, who plays at Georgia and will most likely be the number-one team in the country due to having maybe the best quarterback in the nation.
