The Los Angeles Rams may feel like they missed an opportunity in 2023. After finishing the season 10-7, the Rams would go on to lose by one point in the Wild Card round to the Detroit Lions.
The Rams were on a four game winning streak up to that point and felt as though they could keep It going.
However, they’re getting ready for another run in 2024.
The Los Angeles Rams Sign Protection For QB Matthew Stafford
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network:
The Rams are expected to sign veteran OL Conor McDermott, sources say. The former sixth-round pick of the Patriots out of UCLA, who started five games last season in his second stint in New England, returns to SoCal to help provide depth to a banged-up offensive line.
A seven-season veteran of the Bills, Jets, and Patriots, McDermott started 17 games while appeaaring in 55.
A shoulder injury will keep free agent acquisition (guard) Jonah Jackson out of the preseason. As they recover from injuries of their own, left tackle Alaric Jackson and right tackle Rob Havenstein will also miss time.
There is no indication at this point on the week 1 availability of all three blockers, but from the team’s standpoint, it would be prudent to take a cautious approach. It is possible that McDermott will see significant time on the field in Los Angeles’ exhibition games while they are rehabbing.
Getting a veteran blocker for Matthew Stafford this late in the off-season is a huge for the depth of their offensive line.
