The fifth-seeded Los Angeles Chargers travel to Texas to play against the fourth-seeded Houston Texans at NRG Stadium on Saturday afternoon for the Super Wild Card round of the playoffs. Los Angeles’s passing attack, led by Justin Herbert, will have their hands full against Houston’s secondary, led by First-Team All-Pro Derek Stingley Jr. and talented rookie Kamari Lassiter. The Chargers’ passing offense must be at their A-game against the Texans’ pass defense, which allows the fifth-fewest completions and the sixth-fewest receiving yards but the third-most receiving touchdowns this season.
The Los Angeles Chargers already ruled out one outside receiver
Joshua Palmer suffered a foot injury during the third quarter against the New England Patriots in Week 17. Palmer did not practice last week and did not play in Week 18. For the second consecutive week, their solid outside receiver did not practice, and the Chargers ruled him out when they released the week’s injury report yesterday. He, who is currently third on the team in receiving yards, will miss the third game this season, a big loss for the offense.
However, the Los Angeles Chargers 2nd-year offensive weapon will play
After notching career highs in receptions and receiving yards, with 13 receptions for 186 yards against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 18, Quentin Johnston popped up on the injury report with a thigh injury/illness, which caused him to be limited on Tuesday, miss practice on Wednesday, and be limited again on Thursday. The Los Angeles Chargers listed Johnston as questionable. However, he should be good to go.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Quentin Johnston is good to go against the Houston Texans, a great sign for the offense since Joshua Palmer is out. Johnston is having a much improved year compared to his disappointing rookie season, outside of his issues with drops. He is second on the team in receptions, targets, and yards and first in receiving touchdowns, with 55 receptions on 91 targets for 711 yards and eight touchdowns.
#Chargers WR Quentin Johnston (questionable, thigh/illness) is ‘good to go’ for Saturday vs. Houston, per source. Johnston is coming off a career-high 13 catches for 186 yards.
