Sam LaPorta, tight end for the Detroit Lions, was recently blessed by the one and only Pope Leo XIV recently, along with his wife, Callahan. The couple is currently honeymooning in Italy after getting married a few days back in a very intimate ceremony.
The tight end shared a bunch of pictures from their meeting with the Pope, where he wears a classic brown suit, while his wife wore a flowy white dress and a floral headband. The Pope can be seen praying for the newly-wed couple and blessing them, while many other people stand in a line behind them.
“Thank you to a very busy man for blessing me and my bride. A special moment we’ll never forget.” Sam LaPorta captioned his Instagram post, sharing pictures from when Pope Leo XIV blessed them during their honeymoon in Italy.

Sam LaPorta will soon be returning to the United States from his lovely honeymoon, where he will be getting ready for yet another exciting season of football with the Detroit Lions. LaPorta was instrumental to Detroit’s numbers in the previous season, even if the team did not make it to the Super Bowl.

For the upcoming season, the Lions have definitely set their eyes on the prize, in this case the Lombardi trophy, and will be doing everything they can to clinch the title. LaPorta, who has been with the team since 2023, will also be desperate to add another ring to his jewelry collection, apart from his brand new wedding ring of course.
Sam LaPorta’s Meeting With Pope Gives Fans Promise To A Better Season
After Sam LaPorta shared the Instagram post of himself meeting the newly elected Pope along with his wife, Detroit Lions fans went crazy in the comments section. Many feel that the blessing by one of the most highly-regarded religious figures in the world today, will serve as a major good luck charm for the tight end as well as the team.

The Pope is considered to be the most important person, religiously, and the head of the Catholic church by Christians everywhere, and holds plenty of power and prestige in his hands. And, it is considered a great honor to get to meet him and be blessed by him.

Hopefully, the Pope’s blessings will push LaPorta and the Lions to do better in the upcoming NFL season. The Lions will open their season officially with a matchup against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season.
