The Detroit Lions are coming off yet another historical season.  Detroit followed up their 12-win season in 2023 with a 15-win season in 2024.  Dan Campbell and company are experiencing success in that the Lions haven’t seen since the 1950s.

However, their defense just surprisingly lost a key piece to their defense to retirement.

Before he turns 30, Detroit Lions defensive lineman John Cominsky is hanging up his cleats for good:

On his Instagram account, the 29-year-old John Cominsky announced that he’s retiring from football. Cominsky decided his string of injuries that took over his “desire to continue playing” and wish to spend more time with his wife and two children.

Cominsky thanked the Lions and Atlanta Falcons (the team that drafted him in 2019) in the heartwarming message:

Multiple Lions players commented on Cominsky’s post, including star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson writing, “Gonna miss ya dude🥲.” Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown commented with a “🥂” emoji, with defensive end Josh Paschal writing, “Love bro! Congratulations and enjoy retirement!!”

Here is a look at Cominsky’s career stats:
