The Penn State Nittany Lions finished with an 11-1 record during the 2024 college football season. Penn State made it to the BIG10 championship game before losing to the Oregon Ducks.

The Nittany Lions made it to the college football playoffs and made it to the semifinals before losing to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Penn State will no doubt be one of the top five teams in the country entering the 2025 college football season. They will have a lot of talent returning on offense and defense. Where do the running backs rank in the country entering the 2025 college football season?
CBS Sports Lists the Penn State Nittany Lions As the Top Running Back Room Entering the 2025 College Football Season

CBS sports writer Tom Fornelli listed his top five running back rooms in college football entering the 2025 season. At number one, he had Penn State on his list. This was very interesting. He ranked them ahead of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Texas Longhorns. Fornelli said,
“Last year, I listed Penn State as an Honorable Mention and received plenty of heat for it. Consider this an apology of sorts to Nittany Lions fans. Both Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen eclipsed 1,000 yards last season, leading Penn State on a run to the College Football Playoff semifinals.
Both had the chance to leave for the NFL following the season but opted to return to make another run at a Big Ten and national title with the Nittany Lions. Their presence is one of the primary reasons so many are high on Penn State entering the season.”
Allen rushed for 1,108 yards on 220 carries and eight touchdowns, along with averaging 5,0 yards per carry in 2024 for Penn State. He also caught 18 passes for 153 yards receiving and two touchdowns, along with averaging 8.5 yards per reception.
As for Singleton, he rushed for 1,099 yards on 172 carries and 12 touchdowns, along with averaging 6.4 yards per carry. He also caught 41 passes for 375 yards receiving and five touchdowns, along with averaging 9.1 yards per reception.
Both running backs will no doubt help Penn State’s case to win a national title potentially under head coach James Franklin. Having both running backs and quarterback Drew Allar back could make them into one of the best offenses not only in the BIG10 Conference, but also in the entire college football landscape as well. Having a two-running back system will help Penn State because their rivals Ohio State Buckeyes also had a two-running back system that helped them win it all last season also.
