The 2025 college football season will have many new faces returning at the quarterback position. One of the most polarizing names at the position next season will be Penn State Nittany Lions quarterback Drew Allar.

Allar at one point, was mentioned as a name to be one of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft until he flamed out against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He decided to return to school for Penn State. It will be interesting to see what happens with him during the 2025 college football season. If Allar performs well, there is a chance that he could be one of the top quarterbacks drafted in the 2026 NFL Draft.
College Football Fans Roast Analyst For Having Penn State Nittany Lions Quarterback Drew Allar Ranked High

Bud Elliott of CBS Sports listed his Top 10 returning quarterbacks for the 2025 college football season. The top two on his list were D.J. Lagway of the Florida Gators and Garrett Nussmeier of the LSU Tigers. At number three, the Nittany Lions star quarterback, Allar, was ranked. There are some fans who think that he is ranked too high on the list. This is what they said:
The Drew Allar hype must stop. He was terrible

Is this your top 10 on projection? Then its ok. Mateer to low. Roberston should be lower. Allar I dont think is the best in the B1G. Will Lagway stay health? Whomever wins the Ohio St job should be near the top 10.

How is Lagway number1? 12 tds 9 INTs below 60% completion. His talent is obvious but he’s inconsistent. Was horrible against Tulane.
Not a top 5 returning qb in the SEC based on per game production.
I think he’s awesome but there’s hype is so premature.

Good list but a couple questions:
1. If Lagway is 1 then Arch manning has to be higher, because I assume you’re projecting a bit in this?
2. What is Drew Allar better at than Cade Klubnik? Maybe handing the ball off

No part of me believes that you actually think DJ Lagway is the best returning quarterback in the country right now.

Allar is 6’5″ and weighs 238 lbs. During the 2024 college football season with the Nittany Lions, he completed 66.5% of his passes for 3,327 yards, 24 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He also rushed for 302 yards on 96 carries and six touchdowns, along with averaging 3.1 yards per carry.
It will be interesting to see what happens next season. The last thing that Allar needs is to have a season like Carson Beck did in 2024 with the Georgia Bulldogs.
