The Florida State Seminoles have had quite the season to forget, but it could be even worse if it is cemented into the history books.
The Seminoles are in the midst of a 1-7 season that has seen losses to Boston College, Duke, and Memphis despite massive preseason expectations. The Florida State staff has attempted to change things up on offense multiple times this season, but no success has been found. With four games left and no real bowl hopes, Florida State has just four more chances to find success on offense.
Currently in the FBS in Division I football, there is only one team that has not scored more than 21-points in a single game this season. Florida State scored 21-points once this season in the Dublin, Ireland opener against Georgia Tech. Since then, the team has hit 16-points twice, which would be the season-high without the Georgia Tech loss.
Can the Florida State Seminoles Score More than 21-Points in a Game Before the Season Ends?
Things have really not gone right on offense for the Florida State Seminoles and coach Mike Norvell this season. Between the struggles of DJ Uiagalelei and Brock Glenn, to the inconsistent offensive line play, the Seminoles look lost when it comes to playing offense.
Coach Norvell has since handed the football over to freshman Luke Kromenhoek multiple times in recent games. Kromenhoek still does not look ready for collegiate football, but has shown flashes of success at times for Florida State. The offensive line play in particular has been poor for Kromenhoek, which also could be a reason the quarterback does not look ready.
With just three games left against UNC, Notre Dame, Charleston Southern, and Florida, the chances to score more than 21-points in a game are slim.
The most likely opponents to allow for the Florida State Seminoles to score 21-points or more are UNC and Charleston Southern. The Charleston Southern game should speak for itself, and on paper that should be a massive offensive game for the Seminoles despite their struggles. The UNC Tar Heels, however, are a less likely candidate but still one that has been surrounded by question marks.
The Tar Heels lost to the James Madison Dukes this season in a game that saw the Dukes put up 50-points at halftime. The UNC defense played so bad that coach Mack Brown seemingly attempted to resign from his position after the loss, but reneged on his comment shortly after. After the loss to James Madison, the flood gates seemingly opened on defense and since the Tar Heels have not been the same.
Four out of the last five games opponents have scored 21 or more points against the Tar Heels defense, which bodes well for the Florida State Seminoles. Another bit of information that also helps the chances of the Seminoles scoring over 21-points is the career record of Mack Brown.
Coach Brown is a career 0-11 against the Florida State Seminoles, which is not promising for the Tar Heels. However, Duke had also never beaten Florida State before this season, thus showing anything can happen.
