Arizona Cardinals dual-threat quarterback Kyler Murray may soon be packing up out of Phoenix, if the words of a former NFL scout and now football analyst is to be believed.
In a recent episode of “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” NFL analyst and former scout John Middlekauf expressed his honest opinion on what he thinks could be the future of Kyler Murray with the Cardinals. For him, it might be time to say goodbye sooner rather than later.
“You could put a highlight tape together, just 10-20 plays of Kyler Murray, he’s as good as anyone in the league,” Middlekauff said. “But when you watch him over the course of a game, [and] of a month, he leaves a lot to be done.”
While Middlekauff acknowledged that Murray has the skills and is a dual-threat player on the field, his consistency and reliability remain an issue for the Cardinals.
“Can he slice and dice the good teams when it matters most? I don’t see it happening,” Middlekauff added.

With that said, Middlekauff thinks Murray may be packing up after the 2025 season.
“I would expect Kyler Murray in 2026 to be in a new home,” he said.
Middlekauff’s comments come in time as the Cardinals are long rumored to be entering a rebuilding phase with the intent to become contenders once more.
Insider Prediction Points to Steelers Trading Kyler Murray to Replace Aaron Rodgers
As Aaron Rodgers prepares to start his first, and reportedly only, season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, insider talks have already begun about his future with the team. Since Rodgers has already announced that he plans to retire after the 2025 season, the Steelers would need to find a long-term solution for his absence, and Kyler Murray’s name is one of the top ones floating around.

With this in mind, ESPN reporter Brooke Pryor alleged that the Steelers may be having their eyes on Murray for a post-2025 trade deal. Despite the high cost and rarity of landing a starting quarterback via a trade, Pryor still believed that the Steelers see Murray as a potential target, especially given his status as a former overall No.1 pick who has not consistently met expectations and an elite level of performance.
Murray’s large cap hits in 2026 and 2027, for $53.2m and $43.5M, respectively, would require restructuring, but analysts predict that these roadblocks could be worked around.

At a young age of 27, Kyler Murray remains a high-upside player with dynamic mobility, though concerns have long lingered about his passing consistency and whether he justifies a $50 million salary.
