Quarterback Kyle McCord sent the Ohio State Buckeyes and their fanbase a strong message on social media Monday after he announced his decision to enter the transfer portal.
The Junior was heavily criticized by Buckeyes fans during the season, even though he had decent stats. McCord earned a 131.2 rating against Top 25 teams. He finished 229/348 passing for 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions for the 2023 season.
McCord led a memorable final drive to beat Notre Dame on the road this season. However, the loss to Michigan killed the Buckeyes’ chances at the playoff. The loss probably factored into McCord’s decision to enter the transfer portal after head coach Ryan Day said he wasn’t committed to McCord as a starter next season.
Kyle McCord sends the Buckeyes a message
McCord sent the Buckeyes a message on social media following his decision to transfer. He kept his statement positive and said the Buckeyes’ “passion” is what makes the school special:
“I’m extremely thankful for my time at Ohio State. Playing in the scarlet and gray was truly an honor. I’m grateful for all of the life long relationships I’ve made along the way here in Columbus. My teammates, my brothers, I’m appreciative for each and every one of vou.
Thank you to Coach Day, Coach Dennis, Coach Fitch and the rest of the staff and support team. Buckeye Nation, your passion is what makes playing in Columbus special. With that being said, l’ve decided to enter the transfer portal to explore other opportunities.”

McCord should find plenty of suitors in the transfer portal. He won’t likely transfer to a school with the same passion as the Buckeyes, but McCord might find that to be a welcome change from the impossible expectations in Columbus.
