To say that Kadarius Toney is in a rough patch with the Kansas City Chiefs is the understatement of the NFL season. Multiple dropped passes and a postseason rant have the wideout scrambling to get back in the team’s good graces so he can play in the Super Bowl.
Regardless of where fans stand on the Toney issue, everyone know that the hot takes he said during the latter stages of the playoff did more hard than good. Now, he’s trying to backpedal on the tings he said, saying that they were meant for another NFL organization.
Kansas City Chiefs’ Toney meant digs for New York Giants
Toney was interviewed in the leadup to the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII duel with the San Francisco 49ers, and he used the public platform to clear the air about him complaining on social media about his status.
As written by Giants Wire’s Dan Benton, Toney revealed that his comments were actually meant for the New York Giants and his words were taken out of context:
“It kind of started like that,” Toney said. “In the process of that, I got interrupted so it got like a mixed message behind it, I guess you could say. Then, a lot of footage got chopped up in the release, so it made it like I was attacking doing what I love the most. . . I never attacked the Chiefs, never said anything about the Chiefs. Who I was referring to was the Giants fans and the people in my comment box, not even on my live recording, so you wouldn’t even know they were there. But I was referring to them, which I shouldn’t have. I just wanted to go out there. I just wanted to get my message across as far as my injury, but I shouldn’t have did that at the end of the day.
“I’m a man, and I can accept my mistakes just like I can accept my wins. But I’m just moving past it right now. We’re heading out. We’re just trying to win.”
It’s been a strange run for Toney, who regressed in his performance compared to his form in 2022. He only has 27 receptions for 169 yards and a touchdown for the Chiefs this season. Most Chiefs fans remember his 2023 season for his dropped catches.
After this season, it’s likely he’ll be dealt away by the Kansas City Chiefs. However, he’ll try to win at least one more ring before he goes.
