The Kansas City Chiefs saw firsthand the value of a dominant pass rush in Super Bowl LIX.

As the Philadelphia Eagles applied relentless pressure on Patrick Mahomes, sacking him six times before lifting the Lombardi Trophy aloft, a shot was fired across the bow, to Kansas City and the rest of the league.

In order to compete for championships, it means dominating up front along both lines of scrimmage. For general manager Brett Veach and the Chiefs, there could be a mid-round prospect capable of stepping in and making an immediate impact as a rotational pass rusher this upcoming season.

Kansas City Chiefs’ Ideal Day 3 NFL Draft Target Revealed

If the Chiefs decide to fortify the offensive line in front of Mahomes, after losing veteran guard Joe Thuney to the Chicago Bears, in a trade, Kansas City can still get a pass rusher on Day of the draft.

Pro Football Focus NFL analyst Mason Cameron put together a list of each team’s ideal Day 3 target in the upcoming draft, including the Chiefs selecting Miami edge rusher Tyler Baron.

“The Chiefs have struggled to consistently generate pressure off the edge,” Cameron writes of Baron. “Producing just an 18.2% pass-rush win rate last season — good for 29th in the NFL. Baron has the NFL frame you hope to see on the outside, and the metrics to match, as he earned a 91.0 PFF pass-rush grade on true pass sets across the past two seasons.”

Baron has the chance to develop into a disruptive playmaker in coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s system, especially after producing 10 sacks and 28 hurries last season for the Hurricanes.
